SSS contributions are worked out from your monthly salary credit, or MSC, rather than your exact pay. The system finds the MSC bracket closest to your salary, then applies the 15% contribution rate. For employed members the cost is shared, with the employee paying 5% and the employer paying 10%, while the employer also covers a small Employees Compensation contribution.
The monthly salary credit is a standardised figure that sits between a floor and a ceiling. In 2026 it ranges from PHP 5,000 to PHP 35,000 for employed members, moving in steps of PHP 500. If you earn more than the ceiling, your contribution is capped at the PHP 35,000 MSC, so very high salaries do not keep increasing the contribution.
For an employed member, the total 15% is split so that 5% is deducted from your salary and 10% is paid by your employer. On a PHP 25,000 MSC, that is PHP 1,250 from you and PHP 2,500 from your employer. The employer adds a PHP 10 or PHP 30 Employees Compensation contribution depending on the salary bracket.
Overseas Filipino Worker members have no employer to share the cost, so they pay the full 15% themselves. Their minimum MSC is also higher at PHP 8,000, which sets a higher floor on the monthly contribution. This keeps OFW members building the same benefits as local employees, just funded entirely on their own.
The total SSS contribution rate in 2026 is 15% of the monthly salary credit. For employed members this is split between the employee, who pays 5%, and the employer, who pays 10%. The employer also pays a small Employees Compensation contribution of PHP 10 or PHP 30 on top.
Contributions are based on your monthly salary credit, or MSC, not your exact salary. In 2026 the MSC ranges from a minimum of PHP 5,000 to a maximum of PHP 35,000 in steps of PHP 500. If you earn above the ceiling, your contribution is capped at the PHP 35,000 MSC.
Overseas Filipino Worker members pay the full 15% themselves because there is no employer to share the cost. The minimum monthly salary credit for OFW members is higher, at PHP 8,000, and the maximum is the same PHP 35,000. An OFW at the PHP 8,000 MSC pays PHP 1,200 per month.
At the maximum monthly salary credit of PHP 35,000, the total contribution is PHP 5,250 per month at the 15% rate. For an employed member, the employee pays PHP 1,750 and the employer pays PHP 3,500, plus the Employees Compensation contribution.
SSS contributions fund retirement, disability, sickness, maternity, unemployment, and death benefits, plus salary and calamity loans. Contributions above the PHP 20,000 MSC also flow into the mandatory provident fund known as WISP, which adds an investment based benefit on top of the regular pension.
